Blue Demons Tally Seven Wins At Super Challenge

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The DePaul women's tennis team finished the first day of the Western Michigan Super Challenge with seven wins. Friday's matches at the West Hills Athletic Club were highlighted by four doubles wins for the Blue Demons.
Kelsey Lawson and Rebeca Mitrea combined for five wins and both battled through three sets on the singles courts. Lawson topped Katie Klyczek from Indiana 2-6, 7-8, 10-7 and Mitrea won her three-set thriller 6-7, 6-4, 10-2 over Indiana's Kayla Fujimoto.
The win was Lawson's fifth of the season while Mitrea's victory was her seventh.
Playing for the first time together; Lawson teamed-up with Cali Gustafson and split their two matches. The duo dropped an 8-2 match BIG EAST Conference foes Rebecca Shine and Amelia Harris from Louisville, 8-2; but rebounded with an 8-3 victory over Miloslava Shustova and Jill Pastunick from Western Michigan.
Mitrea and Patricia Fargas improved to 4-1 in doubles action with their respective wins. The Blue Demon pair started the day with an exhilarating 8-6 win over the Cardinal team of Manuela Velasquez and Julia Fellerhoff. Mitrea and Fargas won their final match 8-4 over Western Michigan's April Kerr and Maria Nivia.
The Blue Demons return to the courts on Saturday for matches against student-athletes from Iowa State and Penn State.
