The Blue Demons' (9-2) put their 24-game McGrath-Phillips Arena streak on the line on Friday. DePaul's home court winning streak has spanned three seasons or 661 days. The Blue Demons are 5-0 at home this season including a 69-52 win over St. John's in the BIG EAST Conference opener for both teams. DePaul's streak began on Feb. 23, 2010 when it topped Pittsburgh and closed out the 2009-10 season with a win over Syracuse before going 17-0 on its home floor last season.
This year, DePaul's high-octane offense is led by Anna Martin, Keisha Hampton and Brittany Hrynko. The trio all average double-figures while Martin is second in the league with 18.6 points per outing. The junior from Kentucky has reached double digits in all 11 games and scored a season-high 29 points in the Blue Demons win over Portland on Nov. 19.
Hampton is averaging 17.4 points which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST while her free throw percentage (.877) is also the fourth best in conference. Hrynko is second on the team with 19 3-pointers and puts in 10.1 points per contest.
Arizona State (7-1) comes to Lincoln Park having won its last three games. The Sun Devils are paced by Kimberly Brandon's 10.6 points while the team puts up 64.8 points per contest.
The Sun Devils won last season's series meeting in Arizona. The win snapped DePaul's 10-game winning streak as ASU won that contest 79-66. Last season Brandon scored three points and grabbed seven rebounds. Martin and Hampton combined for 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Friday's game is the third between the two school's while the series is knotted at one game apiece. DePaul won series only other meeting in Chicago, 67-65 during the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in 1992.
Following Friday's game, the Blue Demons hit the road for a contest at Illinois State on Dec. 19. The Blue Demons then close out 2011 with two games at McGrath-Phillips Arena. DePaul hosts Southern Illinois on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. and Northern Illinois New Year's Eve at 2 p.m.
