CHICAGO - The No. 20/21 DePaul women's basketball team begins a stretch of three games in five days when it hosts SIU-Edwardsville on Dec. 9. The Blue Demons put their 23-game McGrath-Phillips Arena winning streak on line when the two teams tip at 7 p.m. in Lincoln Park.

The Blue Demons (7-1, 1-0) opened up BIG EAST Conference play and ran its home court winning streak to 23 games with a thrilling 69-52 win over St. John's on Chicagoland Field Trip Day on Wednesday. DePaul was paced by Keisha Hampton's 21 points while Anna Martin and Jasmine Penny also finished in double figures.
Hampton and Martin have been DePaul's dynamic scoring duo this season. Hampton, a Philadelphia native, has led DePaul in scoring in four games, while Martin has taken the lead in the other four. Martin paces the BIG EAST with 20.8 points per game while Hampton ranks fourth with 17.8 per outing. The Blue Demon pair account for nearly 46 percent of DePaul's scoring output (672 points) this season.
With Hampton and Martin each putting up big numbers each and every night -- the pair ranks in seven of the BIG EAST's 13 individual statistical categories. Besides leading the league in scoring, Martin ranks fourth in field goal percentage (.583), third in 3-point field goal percentage (.550), fourth in 3-point field goals made (2.8) and 13th in steal (2.3). Hampton has put up equally impressive numbers, ranking second in free throw percentage (.913) and seventh in block shots (1.8).
With the Blue Demon pair providing DePaul a one-two-punch, the team is ready for its next round -- facing SIU-Edwardsville on Friday. The game is fifth overall meeting between the two programs. There were three games played in the 1970s before the series started again last season in Edwardsville. The series is knotted at two games apiece with DePaul picking up the last two victories. Last season, the Blue Demons topped the Cougars 76-40, behind 14 points from Hampton.
SIUE enters Friday's game with a 4-3 record and has wins over UIC and an overtime victory on the road against Southern Illinois on Dec. 3. Michaela Herrod leads three Cougars in double-figures with 12.7 per outing. Raven Berry sits at 10.4 and paces the team with 9.6 rebounds per game.
Following Friday's game, the Blue Demons head to New York City and Madison Square Garden for the Maggie Dixon Classic. DePaul is slated to face No. 7/8 Tennessee on Dec. 11, in the tournament that honors former Blue Demon assistant coach Maggie Dixon. Sunday's game can be seen on ESPNU at 1 p.m., the contest is the second-half of a women's basketball doubleheader with Baylor and St. John's playing first.
