Women's Tennis Stay Perfect at Home, Tops #48 Iowa

CHICAGO - The No. 34 DePaul women's team improved to 4-0 at the Lakeshore Athletic Club with a 5-2 win over No. 48 Iowa on Sunday. The Blue Demons improve to 7-4 on the season, while Iowa falls to 2-5.
"I was really proud of our girls today," head coach Mark Ardizzone said following his team's victory. "Beating a good Iowa team at home was great."
"I am especially happy with how we rebounded after getting beat pretty bad yesterday. In college tennis you need to have a short memory and come back strong the next day and we did that today."
"Great team effort everyone was involved with getting us points!"
In doubles action, Cali Gustafson and Christiana Raymond fought off a late run from Jessica Cohen and Christina Harazin on the third court. Up 6-3, Cohen and Harazin tied the match at six, before the Blue Demon pair won the last two games to knot the doubles score at one apiece.
Kelsey Lawson and Selma Salkovic claimed the doubles point with an impressive 8-4 win over Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Alexis Dorr on the second court.
DePaul's momentum carried over into singles action as the Blue Demons won on the first, second, fourth and fifth courts.
Katarina Milinkovic improved to 2-2 against ranked opponents with her 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 81 Sonja Molnar in the top position. Milinkovic improves to 17-10 on the season and is 9-2 in the number one spot.
Gia McKnight and Lawson both earned straight-set victories while Raymond took three set to claim DePaul's fifth point of the match.
McKnight dominated Jessica Young for a 6-0, 6-3 win in the second position while Lawson won her match over Jessica Cohen 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth position. Raymond rounded out DePaul's victories with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win over Alexis Dorr.
DePaul heads to the prestigious Blue and Grey Invitational next weekend which is hosted by No. 45 Alabama. No. 17 Notre Dame, No. 25 Oklahoma, No. 30 Ohio State, No. 63 Auburn, and No. 23 Virginia are all participating in the three-day tournament in Montgomery, Alabama Feb. 25-27.
