DePaul Falls to Texas A&M

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The DePaul women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to Texas A&M on Sunday at Notre Dame's Ecks Tennis Pavilion. The Aggies are the 11th ranked team the Blue Demons have played this season. DePaul slips to 10-9, while Texas A&M improves to 10-5.
"We lost two tough matches this weekend," head coach Mark Ardizzone said after Sunday's loss. "Both duals were really great college tennis matches.
"Can't fault our effort at all," Ardizzone added. "We played two great teams and they were just one shot better than us most of the time. Playing all these tough teams and matches will only make us better at the end."
The Aggies took the doubles points with wins in the second and third positions. When Texas A&M clinched the point, DePaul's No. 75 pair of Gia McKnight and Katarina Milinkovic were up 8-7 on Janelle Cuthbertson and Christi Liles in the top spot. The Blue Demon pair battled for every point as the tandem saved three consecutive match points at 7-6. Prior to that McKnight and Milinkovic were down 6-3 before battling back.
Texas A&M clinched the match with singles wins on the second, sixth and fifth court.
While the Aggies had claimed the victory -- Milinkovic, Kelsey Lawson and Christiana Raymond were all leading in their respective matches.
Milinkovic took the first set from No. 34 Nazari Urbina 6-3 and was down 5-2 in the second set in the top court. On the third court, Lawson lost her first stanza 6-2, but rebounded with a 6-3 set-two win and was ahead 4-3 when the dual was clinched.
Raymond topped Christi Potgieter 6-3 in the first set and was up 4-3 in the second set.
The Blue Demons return to action next Sunday at the Lakeshore Athletic Club when they host Western Michigan. The Sunday matinee begins at 1 p.m. and will also serve a Senior Day. The Blue Demons will honor Selma Salkovic and Milinkovic at the conclusion of the April 10 match.
