CHICAGO - DePaul golfer Charles Boucher was named to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District First Team on Thursday and will now be eligible for Academic All-America honors. The academic teams are voted on by the College Sports Information Director of America.
Boucher was selected as an at-large honoree and his first team recognition places him on the ballot for Capital One Academic All-America honors. The at-large category for men's sports covers fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
The Montreal native is a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic team member and owns a GPA of 3.93 as an accounting and finance double major at DePaul. He is ranked among DePaul's top 20 graduating students in the University's College of Commerce and has been named to the Dean's List each quarter while attending DePaul.
On the course, Boucher posted a scoring average of 76.47 this season while finishing in the top 25 in two tournaments. He also holds the highest GPA on the team that won the 2010 Golf Coaches Association of America "Academic National Champion" team award. Boucher posted a season-best score of 72 on three occasions during the 2010-11 campaign.
Boucher is the fifth DePaul student-athlete to pick up Capital One Academic All-District honors this year. He follows Felicia Chester (first team - women's basketball), Alex Mangan (first team - men's soccer), Alex Morocco (first team - softball) and Sam Quigley (second team - women's basketball). Mangan was also named third team Academic All-American following his district honor. The announcement for the softball Academic All-America teams is May 26 followed by the at large announcement on June 7.
