Trio of golfers earn top-25 finishes
LA JOLLA, CALIF. – DePaul golf had a superb third round at the UC San Diego Invitational, Tuesday afternoon, finishing fifth overall in the 17-team event hosted at Torrey Pines Golf Course. The Blue Demons finished Tuesday with a 284 (-4) for an overall team score of 860 (-4). The score marks the fifth-best team round of 54, dating back to 2000.
"We wrapped up the tournament with a three-round grind and finished 5th, but what really stands out is how the team responded," said head coach Ryan Jamison. "After a tough finish yesterday, the guys came back and delivered our best round of the year—an even par performance across the board. I'm not sure we've ever had a team score where everyone finished even or better, and that says a lot about their focus and resilience. I'm incredibly proud of the way they competed today, and I hope this fuels their motivation moving forward because the progress they've made has been tremendous."
In Tuesday's third round, DePaul didn't count a score over par and was led by North Chery with a 70 (-2). Chery placed 12th overall in the deep field with his second-best career score, 212 (-4). Billy Gneiser and Sam Mortell both shot under par today with 71 (-1), while Dominic Lucchesi and Rohan Gopaldas shot even on the day.
Lucchesi finished 22nd overall for his seventh career top 25 finish, totaling 215 (-1). Gneiser rounded out the trio of top 25 placements with a round of 54 career-best, 216 (E).
