CHICAGO - The DePaul men's and women's cross country teams are on the road again this weekend as the two squads travel to Louisville, Ky., for Saturday's Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park. The day is set to kick off at 8:30 a.m with the first men's race.
In the men's 8K race, the Blue Demons are led by senior Matthew Graham. Graham is coming off of a victory on September 16 at the National Catholic Championship where the Scotland native outran his competition in the five-mile race by a full 20 seconds. His first place time of 24:15 in that race also earned Graham his second BIG EAST Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week award. Graham's initial honor this season came after he took home first place at the UIC Home Opener on September 3.
On the women's side, the Blue Demons are led by seniors Kelly Pickering and Claire O'Brien. Pickering was the first DePaul women's runner to cross the finish line at the National Catholic Championship while O'Brien was the second Blue Demon runner to cross at the UIC Home Opener. DePaul also has a trio of freshmen in Jacqueline Kasal, Taylor Hines, and Danielle Hernando. Each are expected to put forth solid times in the women's 5K race in Louisville.
The E.P. `Tom' Sawyer State Park is also the site of this year's BIG EAST Cross Country Championships and will be the site for the 2012 NCAA Division I National Championships.
