NEWARK, N.J. - DePaul plays the second of three straight road games this week with a Tuesday night date at Seton Hall. The Blue Demons opened the seven-day stretch with an 87-71 loss at Villanova on Sunday and conclude the week at No. 14/15 Louisville on Saturday. The Blue Demons and Pirates are scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET start at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
The Blue Demons concluded the non-conference schedule with a 63-58 win over Cal Poly on Dec. 21 to secure the best record through 12 games since an identical 9-3 start to the 1999-00 campaign. DePaul is 10-5 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play while 24th-ranked Seton Hall stands at 14-2 overall and 3-1 in league action.
DePaul and Seton Hall meet for the 10th time Tuesday night and all of the action can be heard on WSCR 670 The Score with Zach Zaidman (play-by-play) and Jeff Blanzy (analyst) providing the audio description. The game will be televised on ESPN's online channel, ESPN3, with Andrew Bogusch (play-by-play) and Rob Kennedy (analyst) calling the action courtside.

Following the Seton Hall game, DePaul travels to Louisville for a 4 p.m. ET game on Saturday. The Cardinals and Blue Demons can be seen on the BIG EAST Network and heard on WSCR 670 The Score. DePaul returns to Allstate Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and host 11th-ranked Georgetown at 6 p.m.
Noting the Blue Demons: The men's basketball program is 1,382-866 (.615) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 563 straight games... DePaul's last game without a three was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... the Blue Demons are 310-135 (.697) all-time in Rosemont... DePaul is 6-1 (.857) all-time in games at McGrath-Phillips Arena... DePaul's 9-3 start is the best through 12 games since the 1999-00 squad also started 9-3... over the last 25 seasons, only three teams have started with nine or more wins in the first 12 games... the Blue Demons currently hold a seven-game winning streak against Chicagoland programs that includes victories over Chicago State, UIC, Loyola and Northern Illinois... in each of Oliver Purnell's two seasons at DePaul, the Blue Demons have faced three Chicagoland opponents during the non-conference portion of the schedule with wins in each meeting... Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young have each scored at least 20 points in five game this season... the Blue Demons are 3-2 in those games... DePaul is 7-0 this season with at least four players in double-figures and 4-0 with 10 or more three-pointers.
The Opponent - Seton Hall Pirates: Seton Hall enters Tuesday's game at 14-2 overall and 3-1 in BIG EAST play... the Pirates are ranked No. 24 in this week's AP poll and receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches top 25... since opening BIG EAST play with a 75-49 loss at Syracuse, Seton Hall has won three straight over West Virginia (67-48), Connecticut (75-63) and Providence (66-57)... Herb Pope leads the team with 17.9 points and 10.7 rebounds per game... Jordan Theodore adds 15.9 points and 7.4 assists per contest while Fuquan Edwin chips in 14.1 points per game... head coach Kevin Willard is in his second season leading the Seton Hall program.
The Series: Tuesday is the 10th meeting between the two programs... Seton Hall holds a 7-2 advantage with four straight victories... in BIG EAST play, the Pirates have won four of five meetings... two seasons ago at the Prudential Center, Seton Hall posted a 79-71 victory over the Blue Demons.
The Last Meeting: Seton Hall used a 20-7 run midway through the second half en route to a 78-67 win at Allstate Arena on Jan. 12, 2011... Jeremy Hazell led all scorers with 23 points for Seton Hall... Herb Pope added 15 points and six rebounds while Jordan Theodore scored 10 points... Cleveland Melvin led DePaul with 21 points and nine rebounds... Brandon Young added 12 points for the Blue Demons... Seton Hall led, 32-31, at halftime before outscoring DePaul by a 46-36 margin in the second half.
It Could Happen: A win would snap a 32-game losing streak for DePaul against ranked opponents... DePaul's last win over a top 25 team was an 84-76 win against No. 17/16 Villanova on Jan. 3, 2008 at Allstate Arena... Jeremiah Kelly is playing in his 110th career game and Krys Faber is playing in his 105th career game... Kelly needs six points for 700 in his career... with four assists, Kelly moves into a tie for 13th all-time with Peter Patton (313 assists, 1992-96)... Brandon Young needs eight assists for 200 in his career... Cleveland Melvin needs 30 points for 700 career and seven blocked shots to move in a tie for 16th all-time at DePaul.
Demon Doings: Notes following DePaul's 87-71 loss at Seton Hall on Jan. 8:
- The Blue Demons forced a season-high 28 turnovers... it's the third time under Oliver Purnell that DePaul has forced 28 or more turnovers... it's the most in BIG EAST play in the Purnell era.
- DePaul is 2-1 on the road this season.
- Sunday was the fourth game this season with just two players in double-figures... DePaul is 1-3 in those games.
- Jeremiah Kelly moved into sixth on DePaul's all-time three-point field goal list... the senior has 135 career three's.
- Brandon Young posted his 13th game of the season (33rd career) in double-figures... he also scored at least 20 points for the second straight game, sixth of the season and 11th of his career.
- Cleveland Melvin reached double-figures for the 14th time this season and 33rd time in his career.
- Villanova is 235-56 all-time at The Pavilion.
- The Wildcats shot a season-best .560 from the field... they also committed a season-high 28 turnovers... Villanova scored at least 80 points for the second time this season.
- Sunday was the 23rd meeting between the two programs... Villanova leads the series, 15-8.
- The Wildcats have won seven of nine meetings in BIG EAST play.
Rolling with Honors: The sophomore duo of Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young have picked up BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll mentions a combined three times this season. Melvin has been selected twice while Young was named to the five-member list this week. A year ago, the duo combined to earn BIG EAST Rookie of the Week six times - the second-highest total for a BIG EAST program since the start of the 2005-06 season.
Melvin and Young are the league's highest-scoring sophomore duo with a combined 36.1 points per game. Connecticut's Jeremy Lamb and Shabazz Napier are second among the BIG EAST's 16 programs with a 32.9 scoring average. Through 15 games, the sophomores have accounted for 46.8 percent of DePaul scoring this season.
In the BIG EAST statistical rankings through Sunday's action, Melvin is second in scoring (18.9 ppg) and 16th in rebounding (6.4 rpg) while Young is fifth in assists (5.13 apg), tied for fifth in steals (2.0 spg), eighth in scoring (17.1 ppg) and eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.08).
