Cross Country Earns All-Academic Status

NEW ORLEANS - This week, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its men's and women's 2011 Division I All-Academic Cross Country teams. Both DePaul's men's and women's squads earned All-Academic status.
In order to qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic, a team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher and have started at least five runners at their NCAA regional championship. On the women's side, 205 teams from 30 different conferences compose the list of honorees. The BIG EAST Conference was represented the most as it had 14 teams garnering All-Academic nods. For the men, 147 institutions from 30 different conferences earned All-Academic status. Once again, the BIG EAST had the most teams make the list, this time with 11.
For the Blue Demon women, an impressive 3.58 grade-point average led them to earn recognition from the USTFCCCA. The DePaul men' cross country squad accumulated a 3.30 GPA to earn the All-Academic standing.
The USTFCCCA also named scholar teams of the year for both men's and women's cross country. The Georgetown women's cross country team, who captured their first NCAA title this past fall, was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women's Scholar Team of the Year. The Wisconsin men's cross country team, who won their first NCAA title since 2005, was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men's Scholar Team of the Year.
