DePaul Wraps Up First Day in Evanston

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The DePaul women's tennis team wrapped up day one at the Wildcat Invitational with a solid performance in Evanston, Ill.
Zaina Sufi and Rebeca Mitrea paced the Blue Demons in the white and green singles flights, respectively. Both advanced to tomorrow's semifinals; Sufi beat Wisconsin's Tripolskaya, 6-1, 3-6, 6-5 (5) and the topped NC State's Hande, 6-5 (2), 6-4. Mitrea, meanwhile, defeated UIC's Knoppe, 6-4, 6-4, before advancing to the semis with a 6-5, 6-2 win over Wisconsin's Burich.
Kelsey Lawson won two matches in the Orange Flight consolation bracket, while Jarret Fisher went 1-1 in singles play today.
In the doubles draw, Lawson and Mitrea defeated Wisconsin's Chypyha and Rabot, 6-5, to advance to the quarterfinals of the Yellow Flight and Sufi and Fisher received a bye in the Brown Flight.
The Wildcat Invitational Resumes tomorrow in Evanston.
