LOUISVILLE, Ky. - DePaul softball was recognized for its work in the classroom by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Monday, earning All-Academic Team honors as six individuals were named All-America Scholar-Athletes.
The NFCA recognized Ali Lenti, Amanda Mener, Brittany Boesel, Gena Lenti, Kali Gardner and Kirsten Verdun for each achieving grade point averages higher than 3.50 during the 2012-13 academic year.
As a team, the Blue Demons were one of 160 Division I teams to be recognized and ranked No. 38 nationally in GPA (3.363).
DePaul was one of just two BIG EAST programs inside the top-40 along with Butler.
About the NFCA: The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play.
The idea for a softball coaching association first developed from discussions at the National Collegiate Women's Softball Championships in the early 1980s. Although mostly collegiate coaches comprised the organization's membership in the early days, today's college coaches are joined by high school and travel ball/club coaches, umpires, as well as other fans of fastpitch softball. In 1997, the Association's membership reached the 2,000 mark, and today there are more than 4,300 members.
