CHICAGO -- The DePaul women's basketball team welcomes Dartmouth to Lincoln Park on Monday. The game tips at Noon and has been designated "Field Trip Day" for Chicagoland elementary students at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
With a capacity crowd expected and with all in attendance wearing a blue DePaul shirt, the game will be broadcast live on Lakeshore Public Television with Dave Bernhard and Trish Babcock McGraw calling the action. The game will also be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. on LPTV. Fans can follow the matinee game on DePaul's BlueTube and gametracker while in-game scoring updates and notes can be followed at twitter.com/DePaulWBBSID.
Field Trip Day is a DePaul Athletics service project which provides local elementary children a glimpse of college life and for some it is their first time on a college campus. The Athletics Department provides free busing and game tickets to children from the city and surrounding suburbs. DePaul's Field Trip Day is in its seventh year while the event normally draws a sold out crowd of enthusiastic young Blue Demon fans most in their first blue DePaul t-shirt.
DePaul (4-3) is looking to rebound from its 96-85 loss to No. 5/6 Kentucky on Dec. 12. Brittany Hrynko led four Blue Demons in double figures with 20 points, while Megan Rogowski added 19 and Jasmine Penny and Megan Podkowa each chipped in 17 against the Wildcats.
On the year, Megan Rogowski paces that same quartet with 15.0 points per game and has reached double digits in six of DePaul's seven games. A 3-point specialist, the junior leads the BIG EAST with 3.4 triples per game. Rogowski knocked down four 3-pointers against Kentucky and tallied a career-high six triples at Northwestern. The Prospect Heights native boasts a .444 field goal percentage from behind the arc while 24 of her 34 made field goals are from 3-point range.
Dartmouth (1-7) has dropped its last six games and is paced by Fanni Szabo's 18.9 points per game. The freshman also leads the Big Green in field goal percentage (.470), 3-pointers (20), free throw percentage (.808) and steals (16). Dartmouth is under the direction of Belle Koclanes. The first year head coach was previously an assistant at American University, Old Dominion and Penn.
DePaul and Dartmouth are meeting for the first time while the Blue Demons are 8-0 all-time against school's from the Ivy League. Earlier this season, DePaul topped Harvard 99-75.
Monday's matinee is DePaul's last home contest in 2013, the Blue Demons open the BIG EAST Conference season at 4 p.m. against Xavier on Jan. 1. Prior to its game with the Musketeers, DePaul heads to Las Vegas for the Duel in the Desert, Dec. 19-21 and play at Bradley on Dec. 29.
