PEORIA, Ill. - The DePaul women's basketball team closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a contest at Bradley on Sunday. The two teams hit the hardwood at the Braves' Renaissance Coliseum at 3 p.m. Fans can listen to Dave Bernhard and Trish Babcock McGraw's call on DePaul's BlueTube while in-game scoring and updated can be followed at twitter.com/DePaulWBBSID. Gametracker is also available.
DePaul (8-3) has won its last four games and is coming off a Duel in the Desert championship run prior to the Christmas holiday. The Blue Demons, who are averaging 83.5 points per game, use a balance attack as all five starters are scoring double-figures. Megan Rogowski leads the pack with 14.9 points while Jasmine Penny (13.5), Brittany Hrynko (11.3), Megan Podkowa (11.2) and Chanise Jenkins (10.3) are also averaging double-figures.
Penny enters Sunday's game with 997 career points and is looking to become DePaul's 29th 1,000-point scorer and the first since Katherine Harry reached that mark on Jan. 15, 2013. Penny, a senior from Logansport, Ind., is a three-year starter and boasts a career-scoring average of 10.5 points. The forward's .547 (398-for-728) field goal percentage currently ranks sixth in DePaul's career annuals.
Also moving up in DePaul's record book is Hrynko - the junior from Philadelphia is also knocking on the 1,000-point mark. She needs 24 points to reach the 1000-point plateau while she needs one 3-pointer to tie Molly Watson (151) for 10th all-time and four 3-pointers to tie Laura Sobieszczyk (154) for ninth. Also looking to put her name among the DePaul greats, Hrynko needs seven 3-point field goal attempts to tie for sixth with Jenna Rubino (500). The junior also needs two assists to tie Sally Anderson (354) for seventh all-time and five to tie Anna Martin (357) for sixth.
DePaul and Bradley (3-7) are meeting for just the sixth time, while Sunday's game marks the first since the 1991-92 season. The Blue Demons lead the all-time series 3-2, while Bradley owns a 2-0 series lead in games played in Peoria.
The Braves, who opened their season with wins against Illinois and Southeast Missouri State, have dropped seven of their last eight games and are just 1-3 in contests played at the Renaissance Coliseum.
Bradley is led by Michelle Young's 17.7 points while Kelsey Budd (13.8), Kelly Frings (11.6) and Catie O'Leary (10.6) are also averaging double-figures. The Braves are scoring 72.9 points per game, while their opponents are averaging nearly 88 points.
Following Sunday's game, the Blue Demons return to action in 2014 when they host Xavier in a BIG EAST Conference clash at McGrath-Phillips Arena on New Year's Day. DePaul and the Musketeers tip at 4 p.m. and tickets are still available. Fans can purchase tickets at the DePaul Ticket Office located at 2323 N. Sheffield Ave, by calling (773) 325-SLAM or online at DePaulBlueDemons.com.
