Garrett Nets Rookie of the Week for Third Time

CHICAGO - Following a buzzer-beating basket Friday night at Northwestern, DePaul freshman Billy Garrett Jr. was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week. It marks the third time this season that the Chicago native has won the weekly rookie honor.
Garrett finished the game with nine points, a team-high four assists, two rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal against the Wildcats. Garrett's final bucket of the night was the game-decider as Durrell McDonald found the freshmen under the basket. His short jumper rolled around the rim and in as time expired to give the Blue Demons a 57-56 victory.
A DePaul freshman has claimed the league's Rookie of the Week honor four times this season. Tommy Hamilton IV earn the recognition on Nov. 18 followed by Garrett on Dec. 2, Dec. 17 and Dec. 30.
Xavier's Matt Stainbrook was the BIG EAST Player of the Week and the Weekly Honor Roll consisted of Butler's Khyle Marshall, Creighton's Doug McDermott, Bryce Cotton of Providence, Eugene Teague of Seton Hall and Villanova's James Bell.
DePaul opens BIG EAST action this week with road games at Georgetown and Marquette. The Blue Demons play at Georgetown on New Year's Eve at 5 p.m. ET followed by a 1 p.m. CT game on Saturday at Marquette.
