CHICAGO -- Head coach Mark Ardizzone and the DePaul women's tennis program will send seven players to the ITA Midwest Regional in Champaign, Ill., this week.
The five-day tournament, hosted by the University of Illinois, will begin on Thursday (Oct. 16).
Jarret Fisher and Rebeca Mitrea will get things started for DePaul tomorrow morning in the qualifying singles bracket. Play begins at 9 a.m. Fisher and Mitrea will look to join five of their teammates who qualified for the regional's main singles draw. The five include Ana Vladutu, Yuliya Shupenia, Patricia Lancranjan, Jasmin Kling and Patricia Fargas.
In last year's Midwest Regional (Ann Arbor, Mich.) Fargas advanced to the semifinals of the singles main draw. For Fargas it marked her second appearance in the tournament's semifinal round in her Blue Demon career. She is the only DePaul women's tennis player to accomplish the feat.
The main singles draw begins on Saturday (Oct. 18).
The Blue Demons will also have three doubles pairs competing in the main draw of the regional. Fargas and Vladutu, who came into the 2014-15 season ranked No. 44 in the country, will team up, while Kling will play with Lancranjan and Mitrea will pair up with Shupenia.
Tournament draws will be released before play begins. For more information please visit the regional's official website, located here and at the top of the page. The University of Illinois will provide live video of the event as well.
