Fisher, Mitrea One Win From Main Singles Draw in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Only two Blue Demons were in action on Thursday afternoon at the ITA Midwest Regional in Champaign, Ill., but Rebeca Mitrea and Jarret Fisher each won their Round of 32 matches to set the tone for DePaul.
Both matches were played in the Qualifying Singles Draw. Both Blue Demons are one win from qualifying for the Main Draw, which begins on Saturday (Oct. 18).
Mitrea defeated Eastern Illinois' Grace Summers in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 7-5, to move on to the Round of 16 and Fisher joined her teammate by downing Mackenzie Bowman (Toledo) in three sets as well, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Mitrea and Fisher will both play tomorrow with a berth in the main singles draw on the line. Mitrea faces Maria Paula Ribero (Eastern Michigan) and Fisher squares off against Youngstown State's Dominika Lackova.
The main doubles draw will begin tomorrow (Friday) as well.
