
Xavier Pushes Past DePaul, 3-1

The Blue Demons (3-21, 1-11 BIG EAST) matched their highest total of the conference slate with six services aces and also compiled 56 digs and 45 kills throughout the four-set contest.
Smith notched her eighth double-double of the season with 35 assists and 13 digs. Smith also added five kills and a block assist.
Lexi Bolotin and Lexi Chanos each added 12 digs, defensively.
A balanced attack paced the Musketeers (15-9, 8-4) as the team had three players reach double-figures. Aubree Smith dished out a team-high 53 assists, finding the hands of Kristen Massa (14), Alex Blair (13) and Makayla Agin (12) more than 10-plus times.
Xavier opened the match with a 14-13 lead before a kill from Gallop tied the match at 14-14. Back-to-back service aces put the Musketeers up by two and they never looked back. Two straight kills from Blair capped a 9-4 run to close out the set. Xavier won the first frame, 25-18. Gallop and Caitlyn Coffey were the offensive spark adding six and three kills in the frame, respectively.
The Musketeers used the momentum gathered from the first set to take a 12-5 lead in the second stanza. A kill from Callie Huebener brought the margin down to six, but DePaul would get no closer. Xavier used a 13-9 edge to close out the Blue Demons, 25-15. Gallop matched her first set total with another six kills in the set.
Coming out of intermission, it looked as the Musketeers would complete the sweep as they held a 12-8 advantage to begin the third. A 5-0 rally highlighted by kills from Gallop and Smith and an ace from Haley Bueser gave DePaul its first lead of the frame at 13-12. After a timeout, Xavier marched to a 20-16 lead before the Blue Demons used a 6-1 streak to regain the lead. The teams went back-and-forth until an ace by Jameson MacPhie ended the frame, 26-24, in favor of DePaul.
Xavier put its foot on the gas in the fourth frame, racing out to a 17-12 lead. Another kill from Gallop brought the deficit down to four, but the Musketeers were able to fend off the Blue Demons, trading the matches final 16 points. Xavier won the set, 25-21.
DePaul will take to the court tomorrow evening when it hosts Butler at 7 p.m. inside McGrath-Phillips Arena.
