DePaul Stumbles to Georgetown in Straight Sets

Junior Saige Gallop paced DePaul for the 11th time this season, notching nine kills. Sophomore Randi Leath chimed in with eight slams of her own.
Junior Colleen Smith dished out a team-high 23 assists and also added four digs, three kills and a solo block.
Second-year defensive specialist Lexi Chanos led the DePaul defense with 11 digs and also tallied three assists.
For the second straight conference match, the Blue Demons were held to an attacking percentage lower than .200. As a team, DePaul hit .172 (32-15-99) in the three-set defeat.
Georgetown used nine service aces to push ahead of the Blue Demons over the entire match.
Hoya attacker Alex Johnson notched a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. Two other teammates joined her in double-figures as Ashlie Williams and Terese Cannon added 13 and 10 kills, respectively.
Georgetown came out of the gates on fire, taking a 10-2 lead to open the first frame. The Hoyas stretched the margin to as much as 11 and took the beginning set, 25-14. Smith found five different Blue Demons who each registered a kill.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle with both teams trading points until the 23-21 mark where Georgetown took the advantage. A kill from Leath and a dual block from Leath and Smith brought the Blue Demons close, but a service ace from Caitlin Brauneis and a kill from Williams gave the Hoyas a 2-0 lead going into intermission.
The road team used didn't take its foot off the brake and jumped out a 14-4 lead in the third stanza. Georgetown then matched DePaul point-for-point until the Hoyas took the set, 25-15. Leath slammed five kills to highlight the set for the Blue Demons, who dropped their second match in a row.
DePaul returns to action next week when it travels to Butler on Wednesday, Oct. 8 before hosting rival Marquette on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Notes: This was the 15th meeting between the programs all-time… Georgetown now holds a 10-5 advantage, having won three of the last five meetings… after losing the first two sets, DePaul moves to 0-7 on the season when dropping the first two frames… the Blue Demons were held under 100 attacks for only the third time this season… Jasmine King set a new personal-best in conference play with four kills and a .375 attacking percentage (4-1-8)… Callie Huebener set a season-high with 25 attacks… Huebener matched a season-best with four digs… with a team-high 23 assists, Colleen Smith has now led DePaul in that category for the 16th straight game this season.
