ROSEMONT, Ill. - DePaul didn't leave any doubt in the first game of the season at Allstate Arena as the Blue Demons knocked off Drake, 80-62, Tuesday night. The game was the opener for the Blue Demons at Allstate Arena and marked their second straight victory to begin the 2014-15 season.
Billy Garrett Jr. led five players in double-figures with 15 points while Myke Henry added 13. Jamee Crockett scored 12, Forrest Robinson added 11 and Durrell McDonald scored 10 points.
DePaul (2-0) led by 13 points at halftime and didn't let up as the lead extended to 20 points late in the game. The second-half surge was a contrast from last Friday's first game against UIC that saw DePaul allow a 21-point lead to evaporate before pulling out the victory.
Drake closed to within 12 at 64-52 before a rim-rocking dunk by Henry sparked a 9-2 run that ended with two Garrett free throws. The free shots saw the DePaul lead grow to 73-54 with just over four minutes left in the game.
McDonald added career highs of seven rebounds and six assists to his 10 points while Tommy Hamilton IV totaled nine points and seven boards. Henry finished with six rebounds and three assists as eight different players scored at least five points.
Chris Caird led Drake (0-2) with 19 points and Jordan Daniels added 17 for the Bulldogs.
Up next for the Blue Demons is a Wednesday, Nov. 26 game against Lehigh at Allstate Arena. Start time between the Blue Demons and Mountain Hawks is scheduled for 7 p.m.
