2014 Capital One Academic All-Americans
AUSTIN, Texas - Two members from DePaul's record-setting 2014 women's soccer team landed on the Capital One Academic All-America squad on Tuesday morning.
Senior defender Rachel Pitman and junior forward Elise Wyatt were both selected to the team, voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Pitman, a native of Bristol, England, was named a first team Academic All-American, becoming the first Blue Demon in school history selected to the first team. A Public Relations and Advertising major, Pitman holds a 3.66 grade-point average and is scheduled to graduate in June 2015. On the field, she anchored a defense that allowed only 20 goals all season. In addition, she scored three goals and posted six assists during her senior campaign. Pitman was a first team All-BIG EAST selection for her efforts on the pitch in 2014.
Wyatt, meanwhile, was named to the Capital One Academic All-America third team by CoSIDA. The Victoria, B.C., native is a Business major with a 3.63 grade-point average and is on track to graduate in June 2016. Like Pitman, Wyatt was a first team All-BIG EAST selection, scoring 11 goals and tallying seven assists during her junior campaign. She tied for the team lead in total points (29) with teammate Alexa Ben.
The Academic All-America awards garnered by Pitman and Wyatt also mark the first time DePaul has ever placed two student-athletes on the team in the same season. The last player selected to the Academic All-America team was Erin Walter in 2004.
The Blue Demons finished their spectacular 2014 season with a 16-1-4 overall record. They won the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships while earning the program's second consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament and third in school history.
