
Blue Demons Drop BIG EAST Match to Providence

Caitlyn Coffey and Myah Reed each added 12 kills to join Huebener in double digits. Coffey also added five block assists and a solo block.
Setter Colleen Smith had another all-around performance with 52 assists, seven kills and seven digs.
As a team, DePaul hit .291 (68-22-158) marking their second-best outing in conference play.
The Friars (5-22, 1-12) picked up their first league victory behind a match-high 18 kills from Kayla Johnson. Jordan Wiesler added 54 assists, eight digs and three kills to push Providence past DePaul.
The first set proved to be the most entertaining as there were 14 ties and five lead changes. The teams traded the first 18 points before a kill from Randi Leath put the Blue Demons ahead, 10-9. The Friars responded with an 8-4 run to take the lead at the 17-14 mark. DePaul would tie the set up again at 17-17 before Providence ended the frame on an 8-6 streak to take the set, 25-23.
DePaul asserted its dominance in the second stanza, jumping out to a 14-4 lead. The Friars would only get as close as eight as the Blue Demons eventually took the set, 25-16. Coffey and Huebener each tallied three kills and a block assist to pace DePaul to a second-set win.
Coming out of the locker rooms, Providence opened the frame on an 8-5 streak. DePaul kept inching closer and tied the set up at the 17-17 mark highlighted by four kills from Myah Reed. An 8-2 spark gave the Friars the third set, 25-19.
Down 2-1 in sets, the Blue Demons battled hard in the fourth set and began the stanza with a 12-9 behind two kills from Rachel Breault. DePaul never surrendered the lead and won the set, 25-21. Five Blue Demons landed multiple kills in frame, paced by five from Huebener.

The Friars were on match point at 14-10, but a kill from Coffey and an ace from Haley Bueser brought the margin down to two. Providence took a timeout and landed the match's final point behind a kill from Johnson. The Friars won the final frame, 15-12.
The Blue Demons host St. John's tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in their final home match of the season.
