St. John's began the match on a 10-5 run highlighted by a pair of kills from Palgutova and Wachowicz. A slam from Breault sparked a 12-7 and tied things up at the 17-17 mark. The teams traded the next six points before a DePaul attacking error gave the Red Storm the lead at 21-20. St. John's went on to take the first frame, 26-24. Breault and Smith each totaled four kills in the set.
The Blue Demons came out on fire in the second frame and led 16-10 behind kills from five different players. The Red Storm inched closer and brought the margin down to one at the 22-21 mark. DePaul took the next two points but were unable to fend off St. John's. The Red Storm fought off three straight set points and won the frame behind a 6-1 run.
The third set was all about St. John's. The Red Storm opened the third stanza on a 14-6 streak. Back-to-back blocks involving four separate Blue Demons brought the margin down to six - but that was as close as DePaul would get. After trading the final 21 points, St. John's won the match with a 25-18 third-set victory.
DePaul's final three matches of the season will take place on the road. The Blue Demons head to Villanova (Nov. 14) and Seton Hall (Nov. 15) next weekend before facing rival Marquette (Nov. 22) to close out the BIG EAST slate.
