2014 NSCAA Women's Scholar All-America Teams
CHICAGO - DePaul' s historic season in women's soccer resulted in another accolade on Wednesday when Rachel Pitman and Elise Wyatt were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2014 Scholar All-America Third Team.
It marks the first time a Blue Demon has been selected for NSCAA Scholar All-America since 1998 when Erin Lough was chosen for the third team.
This is the second academic All-America honor for Pitman and Wyatt. On Nov. 25, Pitman was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America First Team and Wyatt to the third team.
In the greatest season in DePaul women's soccer history, the Blue Demons went undefeated throughout the entire regular season and captured their first BIG EAST Conference regular-season title. Coach Erin Chastain's team also won its first BIG EAST Tournament title riding a 20-game unbeaten streak.
It all came to an end after a 2-0 loss at Wisconsin in the NCAA tournament opener as DePaul finished with a program-best record of 16-1-4.
The Blue Demons were ranked as high as No. 7 in a national poll, another program record. They finished with a No. 20 NCAA RPI ranking---yet another program best.
Wyatt's 11 goals in the 2014 season is second behind teammate Abby Reed and Julianne Sitch (2003) who both scored 12 times. Wyatt's 29 points that was equaled by teammate Alexa Ben is second to Sitch's 31 points in 2003.
Wyatt's 22 career goals are second all-time to Sitch (32), and Wyatt's 57 career points is second to Sitch (90). The junior forward from Victoria, British Columbia has one more season to improve on her totals.
Pitman, a senior defender, and Wyatt were both All-BIG EAST First Team selections and both were named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Northeast Region Second Team.
On Tuesday, Ben was named to the Top Drawer Soccer.com Best XI All-Freshman Second Team.
