
No. 25/24 DePaul Opens BIG EAST Play Against Butler

CHICAGO - The Blue Demons look to get back to their winning ways when they host Butler for an early BIG EAST contest on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 12 p.m. inside McGrath-Phillips Arena. The game can be viewed on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
DePaul (4-2) and Butler (1-6) have faced each other six times in the past with the Blue Demons winning all six, including both as members of the BIG EAST.
The Blue Demons boast high ranks in three categories in the nation. With a turnover margin of +14.5 per game, DePaul is tops in the NCAA. The Blue Demons also rank sixth in the country with a scoring average of 89 points per tilt. Rounding out the top-10 rankings for DePaul is its 14.5 steals per contest which is good enough for seventh in the nation.
Megan Podkowa was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the second-straight week on Monday following a double-double performance (16 points, 16 rebounds) versus Northwestern. Podkowa leads the team with 7.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
Brittany Hrynko needs only 17 points to pass Jasmine Penny (1,417) and move into 17th place on the all-time scoring list. Hrynko is just 23 points behind Latasha Byears (1,423) for 16th place.
As a team, the Blue Demons lead the BIG EAST in assists (18.3), scoring margin (+15.5) scoring offense (89.0), steals (14.5) and turnover margin (+14.5).
The Bulldogs ride into Lincoln Park after picking up their first win of the season at BYU-Hawaii. Butler lost its only game on the BIG EAST Digital Network earlier this season when it dropped a 66-51 decision to Indiana State.
Loryn Goodwin leads the team in scoring with an average of 17.6 points per game. Ijeoma Uchendu (12.0) and Blaire Langlois (10.3) also average double figures.
Butler is controlled on the glass by Uchendu with an average of 9.4 rebounds per game and Belle Obert who pulls down 6.7 boards per contest. Obert recently finished her four-year career as a starter on the volleyball team.
As a team, the Bulldogs rank third in the league and 14th in the country with only 12.1 turnovers per game.
Food and Toy Drive at Upcoming Games: The DePaul athletics department is hosting a food drive and a toy drive at upcoming men's and women's basketball games.
The food drive is benefitting the St. Vincent de Paul Parish Food Pantry and items needed include canned food or non-perishable items such as: paper towels, plastic bags, canned vegetables, canned fruit, rice, beans, oatmeal, peanut butter bottled water, power bars, cereal bars, canned tuna, napkins, sugar, nuts, ramen, granola bars, dried fruit, hot chocolate mix, powdered creamer, crackers, regular pre-ground coffee and canned soup.
The toy drive benefits the children of the St. Vincent de Paul Center and began on Nov. 29 at University locations in the Loop and Lincoln Park campuses. The drive is now open through Dec. 14.
