CHICAGO - The DePaul women's basketball team is making the most out of this holiday season by conducting a toy drive that will spread Christmas cheer to students at the St. Vincent DePaul Center.
Fans attending the 8:15 p.m. DePaul home game Wednesday against No. 5/4 Notre Dame are encouraged to donate unwrapped toys and games for young boys and girls. Donations boxes will be located in the McGrath-Phillips Arena lobby.
"Our DePaul Women's Basketball annual Toy Drive is one of many highlights of our season. The generous giving of toys by our donors, boosters and fans is awesome in and of itself," said head coach Doug Bruno. "Watching the children's faces when they receive these toys makes the concept of a Toy Drive even greater."
The idea was inspired by associate head coach Jill Pizzotti, who conducted one while she was the head coach at Saint Louis.
"Giving back has always been instilled in me since I was a young girl," said junior guard Chanise Jenkins. "Children deserve the opportunity to feel loved during the holidays, and the Toy Drive is a great way to give them that sense of love and happiness."
The donations of toys will be delivered to the Marillac St. Vincent Family Services at St. Vincent DePaul Center on December 15 at 3:30pm.
"Delivering toys to the children is always an enjoyable experience," said senior Megan Rogowski. "It's a great feeling seeing the children light up when they receive a gift and knowing we made an impact in their lives."
Bruno added, "I want to give a special thanks to our DePaul players who are constantly willing to help serve their Chicago sisters and brothers and to all of those who work for the Marillac St. Vincent Family Services."
