
Vladutu to Open NCAA Tournament Against UCLA's McPhillips

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The NCAA released the 2014 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Pairings on Tuesday morning in Indianapolis, Ind.
DePaul's Ana Vladutu, the first Blue Demon women's tennis player to participate in the field of 64, will open the tournament against UCLA's Kyle McPhillips. The winner will face either No. 3 Kristie Ahn (Stanford) or Stephanie Nauta (Virginia) in the Round of 32.
Vladutu went 14-5 in dual matches during the 2014 season and climbed to as high as No. 97 in the ITA National Rankings. All of her dual matches were played in the No. 1 or No. 2 position; she was the automatic qualifier from the BIG EAST Conference.
McPhillips, meanwhile, put together a 15-3 dual campaign in the No. 3, 4 and 5 slots. Her Bruins are eyeing a National Team Championship against North Carolina. She is currently ranked 38th nationally.
Vladutu's match against McPhillips is scheduled for Wednesday (May 21) at 4:30 p.m. (ET).
