DePaul Posts Strong Showing on Day One in Evanston

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The DePaul women's tennis team opened up its 2014 fall season on Friday afternoon at the Wildcat Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
Yuliya Shupenia was one of three Blue Demons to win two singles matches in the Purple Singles Flight at the invite, beating Caroline Aleck (Western Michigan), 6-1, 6-2, and Klara Supejova (Eastern Michigan), 6-3, 6-3. Joining Shupenia in the quarters will be Jasmin Kling and Patricia Lancranjan. Kling beat Katherine Castro (Pitt) and Athena Trouillot (Michigan State), while newcomer Lancranjan defeated Daphne Friedrichs (Eastern Michigan) and Audrey Ann Blakely (Pitt) to earn her spot in the quarters.
In doubles, Kling and Lancranjan beat Eastern Michigan's Gogvadzke and Ribero, 8-2, to qualify for the white doubles flight round of 16 while Rebeca Mitrea won two singles matches to advance to the quarters of the Black Singles Flight.
The Wildcat Invitation continues tomorrow morning in Evanston.
