CHICAGO - Setting records and garnering accolades seem to go hand-in-hand for the No. 25 DePaul women's soccer team this season.
After establishing the best start and longest winning streak in program history, the Blue Demons were honored by the BIG EAST Conference Monday as Elise Wyatt was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Alexa Ben BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.
In a 2-0-0 week that saw DePaul earn the No. 25 national ranking in Soccer America's national poll, Wyatt scored two goals---including the game-winner in a 3-1 victory last Wednesday over Missouri Valley Conference power and 2013 NCAA tournament second-round qualifier Illinois State.
In a 3-2 comeback win at Milwaukee on Sunday, Wyatt had two assists including one on the game-winning goal by Abby Reed. Milwaukee also competed in the NCAA tournament last season.
The sixth consecutive victory set a program record for longest winning streak. Wyatt took eight shots on the week with seven shots on goal.
Ben scored two goals last week and has been instrumental in the Blue Demons' record-setting 6-0-0 start---the best in program history. Ben scored the tying goal in the win over Illinois State and scored another tying goal in the victory over Milwaukee after spotting the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
This is Ben's second time being selected BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after earning the honor on Aug. 25. It is the first time Wyatt has been honored by the conference this season.
"Elise had a very complete weekend," said DePaul coach Erin Chastain. "She scored goals, created goals and had a tremendous work rate. She's a special player, and we are lucky to have her in our program.
"Alexa is a special attacking player and gets better with every game she gets under her belt. She played very well last weekend, and we are excited about her future contributions."
The Blue Demons return to action on Thursday with a 4 p.m. match at Green Bay.
