Ben Selected to Soccer America All-Freshman First Team

CHICAGO - DePaul's historic season in women's soccer has resulted in another national award as Alexa Ben was named to Soccer America's All-Freshman First Team on Thursday.
Ben set the school record last fall with 11 assists, and her 29 points is tied with teammate Elise Wyatt for the second-highest season mark in program history. Ben also scored nine goals which is tied for fourth-best in a single season.
Ben becomes the first Blue Demon freshman to win a national award since Julianne Sitch was named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine Freshman All-American Team in 2002.
The dynamic first-year forward from Schaumburg made an immediate impact with two goals and three assists in her first six collegiate matches. She went on to record a goal or an assist in 15 of DePaul's 21 matches last season.
She was voted BIG EAST Rookie of the Year by conference coaches after finishing with six goals and four assists in nine league matches. Overall, Ben finished second in the BIG EAST in assists and was tied with Wyatt for second in points. She was also an unanimous selection for the conference's All-Rookie Team.
Ben concluded her first season No. 23 in the country in assists and No. 28 in assists per game.
DePaul finished with a program-best 16-1-4 record that included a historic 20-game undefeated streak. The Blue Demons attained their highest national ranking in school history when Soccer America slotted them at No. 7.
Ben helped lead her team to its first BIG EAST regular-season and tournament titles. DePaul wound up with the fifth-best winning percentage in the nation. The Blue Demons' lone setback was 2-0 at Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
In addition to the Soccer America accolade, Ben was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer.com Best XI All-Freshman Second Team.
