Shupenia and Mitrea Advance in Doubles Action

Pacific Palisades, Calif.- Day one of the qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American Championship wrapped up today with the Blue Demons duo of Yuliya Shupenia and Rebeca Mitrea advancing to the next round in doubles action.
The No. 57 ranked pair defeated BYU counterparts 8-6. The victory propelled the two into next round where they are set to face Stephanie Nauta and Danielle Collins from Virginia at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
Shupenia, ranked No. 119 in singles action, dropped her first match to Luisa Stefani from Pepperdine, but went on to defeat Kelli Hine from Missouri 6-0, 6-3 in consolation. Tomorrow, the junior is set to play another round in the singles backdraw against Yuliya Lysa from Arkansas.
Qualifying rounds of the tournament finish up tomorrow followed by main draw contests getting underway on Oct. 8. Singles and doubles finals wrap up the event Oct. 11.
The ITA All-American Championship is taking place at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
