CHICAGO - The DePaul volleyball team and head coach Nadia Edwards announced Wednesday that St. Charles, Ill. outside hitter Claire Anderson signed her National Letter of Intent and will join the Blue Demons for the 2016 season.
Anderson recorded an impressive 2015 season the court that featured 362 kills (an increase from 252 kills in 2014), 33 aces, a .337 hitting percentage and 121 digs. The outside hitter led her team to conference and regional championships.
"I am very excited to have Claire join our Blue Demon family next year," said Edwards. "Claire was a highly-recruited local athlete who is known for her lethal arm."
Over the past two years, Anderson has earned spots on the Upstate Eight All-Conference and Fox Valley All-Area Teams. She was named High School Player of the Week by Max Preps/AVCA for the week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1 in 2015. Anderson was a U17 All-American Selection and made the AAU Junior National Championships in 2015. The St. Charles, Ill. native was an honorable mention for the IHSA All-State Team in 2014 and made the USA Volleyball High Performance A2 Team.
"Anyone who has seen her play knows that she can certainly unload on a ball and is fun to watch, but she is also an extremely intelligent player and very versatile," stated Edwards. "As a former middle she can hit a quick attack or pass to hit a high ball on the pins. She has speed, power, plays hard and is super competitive."
Off the court, Anderson was recognized as a St. Charles North Scholar Athlete and was Club President.
"Not only is Claire an impressive player, but she comes from a great family, has a fun personality and has just as many accolades in the classroom as she has received on the court," said Edwards.
Anderson has produced winning results for one of the top club teams in the nation, Club Fusion, since 2010. Going back to 2004, Club Fusion is the second-ranked club in the country for number of athletes competing collegiately, including 221 student-athletes playing at the NCAA D-I level.
"Claire has been a part of very competitive programs and knows how to win," stated Edwards. "She is the type of athlete who has the ability to dominate and I am excited for her future at DePaul. Not only can she be an impact player within our program, but will be a strong player within our conference."
The DePaul volleyball team finishes out the 2015 season on the road with four BIG EAST matches, including two this weekend against Providence and St. John's.
