Xavier came out with the early advantage in the first set, taking a 6-1 lead, and forced a DePaul timeout. After the timeout, the Blue Demons brought the set back within three when King registered her first kill of the night. Despite getting within three of the Xavier lead, DePaul could not bring the score any closer in the first set and Xavier won set point on a kill by Mackenzi Humm.
In a reversal of the first set, DePaul enjoyed an early 7-2 lead in the second set. The Blue Demons held that lead until Xavier came back to tie the match at 12-all. DePaul answered with a 5-0 run that featured two kills from King. As the Musketeers cut into the lead late in the frame, DePaul was able to secure three of the last four points of the set to win set point and even the match.
The third set saw neither team obtain as big of an early lead as the first two sets and the Blue Demons and Musketeers battled to a score of 12-12. Xavier tallied the next two points and took over the lead, building it to four points at 18-14. DePaul would not go down without a fight. Back-to-back points by DePaul helped bring the score within two at 18-16 and the Blue Demons repeated the same process to get the score to 20-18. A late Xavier rally solidified the set for the Musketeers.
The first 24 points of set number four were split evenly between the two sides. A slight lead by Xavier was gained after the tie, but DePaul would not go down by more than four in the frame. Bringing the score within two points late, DePaul looked to have momentum to tie the match. The Musketeers ended the momentum by claiming the final point of the set to grab the match.
DePaul attempts to end the 2015 season on a high note as it takes on Butler on Saturday. The match is set for a 5 p.m. CT start and will be featured on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FOX Sports Go.
