CHICAGO - Senior Night for the DePaul volleyball team featured strong performances from the student-athlete honorees and a win over Georgetown, 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-19). The Blue Demons boast a 15-11 overall record after the win (3-10 in BIG EAST play), while the Hoyas fall to 10-17 (4-10 BIG EAST).
For the second match in a row, Callie Huebener led the Blue Demons in kills with 12 over three sets. The senior outside hitter added four digs and five blocks to her night.
Randi Leath ended the night with nine blocks and six kills. Leath's nine blocks are a career-best for the middle blocker.
Tyler Graham and Lexi Chanos recorded double-digit digs. Graham had a team-high 13, while Chanos registered 10.
Colleen Smith helped set the attack for the Blue Demons with 30 assists. Smith added six digs, four kills and three blocks to her night.
DePaul won the blocking battle on the night, 13.0-1.0. This is the fourth time this year the Blue Demons blocked 13 or more shots in a match.
A packed McGrath-Phillips Arena for Senior Night enjoyed a fast start to the match after DePaul came out with a 10-4 advantage, thanks to a 6-0 run with Graham on the serve. The slow start by the Hoyas proved costly in the first set as they never came within less than five of the Blue Demons. A lead of 13 points late in the set helped DePaul cruise to a 25-15 set one win after Jasmine King put away set point.
The Blue Demons opened the second set on a 3-0 rally and never surrendered the lead in the frame. Errors hurt the Hoyas in the second set, finishing with 11 by set point. DePaul ended the set on a 4-1 run that featured a Brittany Maxwell service ace and a Huebener kill to claim the set.
The third set proved to be the closest between the two sides with seven ties. Midway through the frame, Georgetown tied the match at 14, 16 and 17-all. With the two teams locked at 17-17, DePaul rallied for five points in a row. The Blue Demons would go on to win the set and the match off a Huebener kill.
DePaul returns to McGrath-Phillips Arena on Saturday, Nov. 7 for its final home match of the 2015 season to host Creighton. The Fan Appreciation Night match is set for an 8 p.m. CT start with live coverage through DePaulBlueDemons.com.
