
Podkowa Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

CHICAGO - DePaul senior forward Megan Podkowa was named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week it was announced on Monday by the league office.
Podkowa's first career Player of the Week honor comes after the Glenview, Ill., native scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed at career-best 18 rebounds in the Blue Demons' 80-66 win at No. 15/16 Texas A&M last week.
Helping DePaul to its first ranked road win since 2014, Podkowa also added, three assists, two steals and a block against the nationally ranked Aggies.
Playing at No. 3/3 Notre Dame on Wednesday last week, Podkowa tallied 14 points - 12 of which came in the second half as the Blue Demons mounted a furious come-back on the road. She also added six rebounds, three assists and a steal in the Blue Demon's tough 95-90 road loss. The senior went 4-of-4 from the free throw line in helping to keep DePaul perfect (16-for-16) at the charity stripe for the first time this season.
For the week, Podkowa averaged 17.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in road games against a pair of ranked opponents. She boasted a .464 (13-for-28) field goal percentage while knocking down four 3-pointers. She also tallied six assists while boasting a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Podkowa is the first DePaul player to earn the league's Player of the Week honor this season, while Jessica January and Podkowa have been named to the league's weekly honor roll a total of three times.
Marquette's Allazia Blockton was named the league's Freshman of the Week.
DePaul is back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at South Dakota State. The game will be broadcast on DePaul's BlueTube.
