CHICAGO - DePaul senior Megan Podkowa was named the ESPNw National Player of the Week on Monday. For the week Podkowa averaged 24 points and 12.5 rebounds in leading the No. 16/15 Blue Demons to a win at No. 12/13 Northwestern.
Podkowa was instrumental in DePaul's 77-64 win at Northwestern on Saturday. The victory marked DePaul's second top 25 road win of the season. The Blue Demons had previously knocked off then-No. 15/16 Texas A&M on Dec. 12 in College Station.
Against the Wildcats, the Glenview, Ill., native scored a career-high 27 points. The senior was unstoppable behind the arc, connecting on 6-of-7 from long range. Podkowa grabbed 14 rebounds and helped the Blue Demons to a 51-37 rebounding advantage. She also finished the game with four assists, a season-best four blocks and a steal.
At South Dakota State, Podkowa finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
For the week, Podkowa boasted a .607 field goal percentage while the senior drained 9-of-11 from 3-point range. She also boasted a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio while dishing out eight assists. Podkowa totaled seven blocks and two assists for the week.
Podkowa has recorded a double-double - which included scoring 20 or more points - in each DePaul's last three games.
For the year, Podkowa lead the Blue Demons with 15.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Her field goal percentage (.548) and 3-point field goal percentage (.442) also lead DePaul.
This is Podkowa's first career National Player of the Week honor. Last week, Podkowa earned her first career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor.
Podkowa becomes the second DePaul player to be named the ESPNw National Player of the Week. Brittany Hrynko earned the same honor Mar. 3, 2014.
The Blue Demons host Loyola at Noon today at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
