PEORIA, Ill. - The DePaul volleyball team closed the Bradley Invitational on Saturday as champions by defeating the host Braves in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22). Freshman Brittany Maxwell was named the invitational's MVP, while Tyler Graham and Kelsey Horvath were named to the All-Tournament team.
Maxwell helped the Blue Demons on Saturday night with nine kills and a team-high three blocks. Caitlyn Coffey recorded a team-high 11 kills on 21 attacks.
Graham and Horvath tied for the team lead in digs with 11 each. Graham added three service aces to her night. Horvath was the primary setter for the Blue Demons and tallied 34 assists.

Playing in a packed house for the final match of the Bradley Invitational, the Braves held the lead for the first half of the first set. The Blue Demons slowly climbed back into the set and tied it at 16-16. DePaul took over the lead on the next play after a Bradley error, 17-16, and held off the Braves long enough to earn set point off a Maxwell kill. The Blue Demons claimed the first frame after Erica Haslag committed an attack error, 25-22.
Both sides went back-and-forth to start the second frame. After the score was tied at 10-10, the Blue Demons produced a 7-1 run to gain control of the set. Haslag led the Braves back within three when she received a set from Jessica Teel for the kill, but DePaul responded with a 6-1 rally that was capped by a Kelsey Horvath kill. DePaul won the second set, 25-17.
The third set looked to be Bradley's to win early on in the frame. The Braves jumped to a 7-2 advantage right after DePaul called a timeout. It did not take long before DePaul overtook the lead when Horvath set Maxwell for an important go-ahead kill. The Blue Demons built their advantage to 20-14 before Bradley started gaining momentum from the home crowd. Chipping away at the deficit, the Braves brought themselves within one late in the third set, 23-22. DePaul scored the final two points of the set on a Myah Reed kill and a Bradley attack error to finish the weekend a perfect 3-0.
Tonight's match closes the invitational schedule for DePaul volleyball. The Blue Demons begin BIG EAST Conference play against Butler on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. CT in McGrath-Phillips Arena.
