Blue Demons Finish Day One of the Wildcat Invitational

EVANSTON- The DePaul University women's tennis team wrapped up day one of the Wildcat Invite with a 12-3 record, including a 4-0 finish in the top half of the Purple Singles draw by Rebeca Mitrea and Marina Cozac.
Mitrea defeated Toni Ormond from Ball State 6-4, 6-0 and then went on to defeat Emily Metcalfe from Michigan State 6-4, 6-3. Cozac debuted with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Ann-Sophie Hahn from UIC and then defeated Lexi Baylis from Michigan State 6-1, 6-1.
In the bottom half of the Purple Singles draw, Ana Vladutu clinched a win over Jackie Altansanrai from UIC 7-5, 6-4.
In the top half of the White Singles draw, Milica Tesic defeated Mela Jaglarz from Drake 6-2, 6-2 before dropping her next match against an opponent from Pittsburgh. Zaina Sufi had a bye before defeating Bianca Zuzu from UIC 6-0, 6-4.
Jarret Fisher won her first match in the bottom half of the White Singles draw against Rachel Lecomber from UIC 6-1, 6-4 before falling to an opponent from Pittsburgh.
On the doubles end, Vladutu and Mitrea won their match of the day against a pair from UIC 6-3 in the top half of the bracket.
In the bottom half of the doubles bracket, the freshman duo of Tesic and Cozac went undefeated with victories against a pair from Ball State 6-4 and Eastern Michigan 6-2. Sufi and Fisher defeated a duo from UIC 6-2 before falling to Michigan State 6-0.
Competition continues for the Blue Demons tomorrow at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston.
