Blue Demons Fall at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Blue Demons couldn't hold a first-half lead and dropped a 74-63 decision at Georgetown on Saturday. Billy Garrett Jr. led DePaul with 16 points while becoming the 49th player in program history with 1,000 career points.
Neither team led by more than four points in first half until a basket by Darrick Wood put DePaul (6-10, 0-4 BIG EAST) ahead 28-22 with 3:35 on the clock.
Georgetown answered and finished the opening frame with a 6-2 run that saw the Blue Demons holding a 30-28 advantage.
After Garrett's jumper to start the second half, the Hoyas scored eight of the game's next nine points to take a lead that they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the afternoon.
DePaul moved within a single possession on two occasions and trailed 53-50 with just under six minutes left in the game. Georgetown (10-6, 3-1 BIG EAST) made 10 free throws in the next three minutes and held a 63-52 advantage with 3:25 left in the game.
Garrett added four rebounds and four assists to his 16 points while Myke Henry chipped in 13 points and five boards. Darrick Wood added 11 points off the bench.
D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and L.J. Peak led the Hoyas with 17 points each.

POSTGAME NOTES: Billy Garrett Jr. became the 49th player in school history with 1,000 career points on a jumper to start the second half... he finished the game 1,011 career points and is ranked 48th all-time... Georgetown lead the series, 27-7... the Hoyas swept both games this season with a 70-58 decision on Dec. 30 at Allstate Arena.
