Shupenia, Avgeri Advance in Doubles at the ITA Regionals

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Members of the DePaul women's tennis team participated in doubles play in day two of the ITA Midwest Regional Championship Friday on Michigan State's campus.
The tandem of Yuliya Shupenia and Aspasia Avgeri clinched both matches to advance to the doubles quarterfinal round scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. CT.
Shupenia and Avgeri defeated Victoria Bensimon and Princess Gbadimosi from Cleveland State 8-3 and Olivia Myers and Katja Fevralev from Western Michigan 8-3.
Ana Vladutu and Patricia Lancranjan dropped their match 7-6 (10) to Karalina Maksimava and Carli Knezevich from Akron. Milica Tesic and Florence Abbott lost to Iris Thioux and Marie Maitrot 8-2 from Detroit.
Saturday marks the first day of singles main draw. Avgeri and Abbott clinched their qualifying singles matches to advance to the main singles action. Lancranjan, Shupenia, Vladutu and Marina Cozac are also set to compete for the Blue Demons.
