NEW YORK - DePaul volleyball's Brittany Maxwell led the Blue Demons with 31 kills in a 2-0 weekend to earn the BIG EAST Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.
Maxwell was a big part of DePaul's perfect weekend over Villanova and Georgetown. The sophomore notched a team-high 31 kills for a 4.43 kills per set average, nine digs and eight blocks over seven sets. Maxwell closed the weekend with a .500 hitting percentage.
"I am extremely proud of Brittany for the back-to-back performances she put together, helping our team to go 2-0 on the weekend in BIG EAST play," said head coach Nadia Edwards. "Brittany has been consistent offensively since the opening week of competition and has done a fantastic job developing the other areas of her game."
The Macomb, Mich. native helped DePaul defeat Villanova in four sets on Friday night with 19 kills, committing just two errors on 38 attacks, and five blocks. Maxwell finished with a match-high 22.5 points.
On Saturday against Georgetown, Maxwell tallied 12 kills and did not commit an attacking error in a sweep over the Hoyas. She added three blocks and three digs in the win.
"As teams continue to key on her, she has shown just how versatile and effective she can be," stated Edwards. "This is a well-deserved recognition."
Maxwell is the first Blue Demon to win a Player of the Week honor twice in a season for DePaul since Stephanie Bishop in 2001. She ranks fourth in the BIG EAST this season for kills per set (3.70) and points per set (4.43).
DePaul and Maxwell are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 to take on Butler at noon CT at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
