CHICAGO - These Blue Demons will be riding a wave of recent goal scoring into the Butler Bowl on Thursday night.
DePaul (6-4-2, 3-0-0) is sitting atop the BIG EAST Conference heading into its matchup with Butler (8-3-2, 1-1-1). Led by BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Abby Reed, the Blue Demons have scored 20 goals during their five-game winning streak.
Reed will be aiming to extend her streak of recording a point in the last five games, and the senior forward has racked up multiple points in the last three matches. She has eight goals and four assists and is currently No. 16 in the NCAA's list of active career leaders in goals and points.
Butler had a six-game unbeaten streak snapped last Saturday after a 1-0 loss to Providence in the Butler Bowl. The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 23-6, outpointed them 64-15 and hold a 92-54 advantage in shots on goal.
Their most dangerous threat is Serina Kashimoto with eight goals and four assists while Paige Monaghan, Halle Stelbasky and Breann Pempek have three goals apiece. Goalkeeper Hannah Luedtke comes in with a 0.50 goals-against average (GAA) with five solo shutouts and three shared clean sheets.
DePaul is back at Wish Field on Sunday for a conference match against Villanova (3-8-0, 1-1-0) on Senior Day when the women's soccer program will honor Ana Greik, Kelli Hubly, Danielle Pitaro, Reed and Taylor Schissler.
Villanova has been outscored 26-11 and opponents have a 73-35 advantage in points. The Wildcats have been outscored 14-4 in the second half. Kristin Barbour leads the team with six goals and one assist.
Notes
- After the recent scoring surge, DePaul is No. 8 in the country in goals and scoring offense and No. 13 in points.
- In the BIG EAST, the Blue Demons are No. 1 in goals, assists and points with Reed first in points, tied for first in assists and tied for second in goals. Franny Cerny is tied for first in game-winning goals (three).
- Alexa Ben has 21 career assists, leaving the junior midfielder five shy of all-time leader Julianne Sitch (2002-05).
- Abby Reed is third all-time at DePaul in career points with 61 and Ben is right behind her at 55.
- DePaul leads the all-time series against Butler 3-1-1 with a 3-2 win last year at Wish Field.
- Villanova leads the series against the Blue Demons 7-5-1, and DePaul won 3-0 last year on the road.
