CHICAGO – Success on and off the field has been the cornerstone for DePaul athletics, and women’s soccer enhanced that glowing reputation on Thursday.
Coach Erin Chastain’s BIG EAST-leading program has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for 13 consecutive years.
A total of 892 soccer teams (315 men, 577 women) from throughout the United States were recognized by the NSCAA with its Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2015-16 academic year.
Among these programs are 221 schools receiving honors for both their men and women's teams. DePaul was among the double winners as the men’s soccer team won the award for the eighth year in a row.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
Women’s soccer faces Butler in a pivotal BIG EAST match at 6 p.m. Thursday in Indianapolis. The Blue Demons will be shooting for their sixth win in a row.
