Volleyball Falls to Seton Hall on Senior Day

CHICAGO - The DePaul volleyball team dropped a hard-fought, 3-1 (28-26, 21-25, 27-25, 25-17) BIG EAST Conference match to Seton Hall on Sunday at McGrath-Phillips Arena. DePaul falls to 13-15 overall and is 7-9 in conference games. Seton Hall improves to 15-15 and is 9-8 in league contests.
In a match that saw 29 ties, five lead changes and both teams hit over .300 it provided the boisterous Senior Day crowd a lot to cheer about.
DePaul was led by Myah Reed's 20 kills while senior Jasmine King did not have an error in the match. King swung for an impressive 62.5 percent and knocked down 15 kills on 24 attempts. Caitlyn Coffey (11 kills) and Rachel Breault (five kills) also did not have a hitting error in the match.
Colleen Smith guided DePaul's offensive attack and totaled 62 assists in the loss. The senior also had a team-best two service aces and added nine digs.
King also provided a wall at the net and totaled eight block assists and one solo block. Coffey added five block assists as DePaul recorded 10 blocks in the match.
There were 18 tie scores in the first set which was a preview of the entire match. With DePaul down 24-21, the Blue Demons held off set-point six times before Seton Hall was able to take the set, 28-26.
Not wanting a repeat of the first set, DePaul hit nearly 49 percent in the second set. Tied at 14, the Blue Demons closed out the set on an 11-6 run which was highlighted by four kills each from Jameson MacPhie and King. DePaul took the second set 25-21.
Seton Hall won the final two sets - 27-25 and 25-17.
The Pirates were led by Dominique Mason's 25 kills while Abby Thelen (16) and Danielle Schroeder (15) each tallied double-digit kills in the win.
DePaul closes out the regular season with matches at Xavier and Butler next weekend.
