Blue Demons Face No. 7/5 Georgetown in BIG EAST Semifinals

CHICAGO ââ'¬" Get ready for round two of DePaul versus Georgetown---only this time the stakes are so much higher.
Less than two weeks after the Blue Demons upset the Hoyas 4-1 on their home pitch, they are back at Shaw Field Friday for a 1 p.m. BIG EAST Championship Semifinal match that will propel the winner onto the title game on Sunday.
This semifinal showdown will be broadcast by the BIG EAST Digital Network which can be accessed at foxsportsgo.com.
BIG EAST regular-season co-champion DePaul (10-6-2) stunned No. 7/5 Georgetown (15-2-2) on Oct. 23 as the visiting side scored four goals on four shots in the first half behind the remarkable accuracy of Alexa Ben (twice), Franny Cerny and Abby Reed.
That snapped a 14-game unbeaten streak.
The Hoyas served notice they are ready for a postseason run with a 4-0 victory over Butler last Tuesday in a first-round playoff match.
Georgetown has been dominant all season, outscoring opponents 51-13. The Hoyas enjoy a 128-37 advantage in points and a 124-68 edge in shots on goal.
Grace Damaska leads the team with 12 goals while Crystal Thomas has 10 and Rachel Corboz and Amanda Carolan have nine apiece.
DePaul has outscored teams 44-25 and is led by Reed with 11 goals. Cerny has eight scores, Ben seven and Taylor Schissler and Ana Greik have six apiece.

- Georgetown leads the all-time series 7-5-3.
- The last time these adversaries met in the postseason, the Blue Demons won 2-0 in the 2014 BIG EAST title game.
- DePaul is No. 11 in the nation in scoring offense and No. 16 in goals and points per game.
- The Blue Demons are No. 18 in the country in shots on goal per game, No. 21 in points and No. 36 in assists.
- The 44 goals this season are two shy of the school record set by the 2004 team.
- Reed's 11 goals in 2016 are one away from the season record she shares with Julianne Sitch (2003) and Elise Wyatt (2015). Reed notched her dozen in 2014.
- Reed has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
- Ben is second all-time in career assists with 21, and the junior is five back of Sitch (2002-05).
- Senior Reed is third in career goals with 27 and Ben is fourth with 20.
- Reed is third in career points with 67 and Ben is fourth with 61.
