CHICAGO - DePaul senior guard Jessica January was named to the Naismith Trophy Top 50 Preseason Watch List on Wednesday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
January is the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Player of Year and leads the league with 7.0 assists per game. She ranks second in the league scoring (18.5), third in steals (3.2), third in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6) and fourth in free throw percentage (.852). Nationally January ranks 11th in assists per game 10 in total assists (42) and 22nd in steals (19).
This season January has been named the Maggie Dixon Classic Tournament MVP and to the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament Team. She has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week in two of the three weeks the award was given out and was named to the weekly honor roll in the third week.
January is also on the Nancy Leiberman Award Watch List after making the top 10 last season.
January and the Blue Demons, who are ranked No. 15/14 in the national polls this week, travel to No. 2/2 Connecticut for a 6 p.m. (CT) game on Thursday. The non-conference clash can be seen live in Chicago on Comcast SportsNet Plus in Chicago on SNY and ESPN3.
