
No. 17/16 DePaul Plays at Temple on Thursday

PHILADELPHIA -- The No. 17/16 DePaul women's basketball team hits the road for a showdown with Temple on Thursday at McGonigle Hall. The 9 p.m. (ET) game will be broadcast on ESPNU with Roy Philpot and Brooke Weisbrod on the call. DePaul (6-3) is playing its fifth game away from McGrath-Phillips Arena and just its second true road game. The Blue Demons' other road game was at No. 1/1 Connecticut while DePaul has played No. 3/4 Baylor, No. 21/18 Syracuse and Western Kentucky on a neutral court. DePaul is 2-2 in games not at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
The Blue Demons, who are playing one of the toughest schedules in the country, are coming off a 75-61 loss to then-No. 2/1 Notre Dame on Saturday. The Blue Demons and Irish battled for 40 minutes and were tied at 38 in the third quarter, however Notre Dame handed DePaul its first loss of the season on its home court. Against the Irish, Jessica January and Brooke Schulte led DePaul's offense with 19 points apiece.
Led by January's 16.4 points the Blue Demons are averaging 81.8 points per outing while they are recording an assists on 63.4 percent of its baskets. January ranks 16th in Division I and leads the BIG EAST Conference with 6.6 assists per game while every eligible DePaul player has at least one assist. January leads the team and ranks 19th in DI with 59 dimes while Amarah Coleman (26), Brooke Schulte (19), Ashton Millender (15) and Jacqui Grant (15) all have 15 or more assists on the year.
Temple (5-3) is coming off an 83-48 win at Villanova on Dec. 10. The Owls have won three of their last five games and are 3-0 at McGonigle Hall this season.
Four Owls are averaging double-figures with Feyond Fitzgerald's leading the charge with 18.9 points. Fitzgerald also paces the team with 6.5 assists while Donnaizh Fountain leads Temple on the glass with 8.8 rebounds per game. Tanaya Atkinson is second on the team with 7.8 rebounds while the Owls are averaging 42.2 rebounds per outing.
DePaul and Temple are meeting for just the second time ever and first since 1982. The Owls won that meeting, 84-68 in a WNIT Tournament game in Amarillo, Texas.
Following DePaul's trip to Temple, the Blue Demons play at Loyola on Sunday (Dec. 18) before closing out its non-conference schedule with a Dec. 20 game against Tennessee-Martin at McGrath-Phillips Arena. DePaul opens BIG EAST play at Georgetown and Villanova, Dec. 28 and 30.
