CHICAGO - This was a singular achievement for Brooke Schulte on Monday when the Blue Demon guard was honored as the BIG EAST Player of the Week.
It was the first time in Schulte's career that she has earned the conference's player-of-the-week award. Appropriately enough, it came after the senior scored a career-high 27 points in just 26 minutes of play during last Tuesday's 100-68 victory over Tennessee-Martin.
That was the third triple-digit showing of the season for DePaul which ranks ninth nationally in points per game.
Schulte made her first five shots and wound up shooting 12-of-16 from the floor while also hauling down seven rebounds at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
The 27 points are the most by any BIG EAST player this season, and she became the third Blue to earn this award. Jessica January was player-of-the-week on Nov. 14 and 28.
DePaul (8-4) opens BIG EAST play on Wednesday against Georgetown (8-2) with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C. The game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
