Wooden Preseason Top 30 Release
CHICAGO - DePaul senior guard Jessica January was named to the John R. Wooden Award® Women's Preseason Top 30 today. January joins players from seven other conferences on this prestigious list which is chosen by a preseason poll of national women's college basketball media members.
January is the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Player of Year and leads the league with 6.6 assists per game. She ranks second in the league scoring (16.1), third in steals (2.9) and fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1). Nationally January ranks 17th in assists per game, 16th in total assists (53) and 35th in steals (35).
This season January has been named the Maggie Dixon Classic Tournament MVP and to the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament Team. She has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week twice and was named to the weekly honor roll once.
January is also on the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List after making the top 10 last season and is on the Preseason Naismith Trophy Watch List.
Along with excelling on the court the Wooden Award's national ballot will consist of 15 top players who are all making progress toward graduation and maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA. The Wooden Award All American Team, consisting of the nation's top five players, will be announced the week of the Final Four.
