West Lafayette, Ind. -- Junior Yuliya Shupenia recorded wins in her respective singles and doubles slots this afternoon, but it wasn't enough for the Blue Demons to etch out a win against Purdue. The No. 51 Boilermakers defeated No. 43 DePaul by a score of 5-2.
Shupenia was the lone DePaul player to record wins in both categories, defeating Andjela Djokovic 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and pairing with Milica Tesic to beat Krisztina Kapitany and Marta Ruedas-Burgos 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Patricia Lancranjan was the other Blue Demon to clinch a win at No. 2 singles, beating Nicole Robinson 6-1, 6-1.
In the rest of singles action, Rebeca Mitrea fell at No. 3 to Krisztina Kapitany 4-6, 7-6 (10-6), 1-0 (10-5), Zaina Sufi lost to Natalia Davila 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4, Claudia Escribens defeated Jarret Fisher 6-1, 6-0, while Milica Tesic dropped her match at No. 6 singles to Marta Ruedas-Burgos 6-0, 6-1.
On the doubles end, Lancranjan and Mitrea lost at No. 1 to Djokovic and Robinson, while Sufi and Fisher dropped at No. 3 to Escribens and Davila 7-5.
Tomorrow, DePaul is back on the court in West Lafayette to take on No. 37 Tulsa at noon.
